Savanna's Story

by Savanna

My name is Savanna.

I am a 29 year old female who had been suffering for the past three years from very puzzling symptoms including numbness and tingling of the hands and feet, extreme fatigue, dizziness, memory loss, vertigo, anxiety, depression just to name a few.

My former family Dr could give me no answers as to why I was suffering from these ailments, he even went as far to suggest that perhaps I was only imaging the severity of the problems..

Finally I found a new family doctor who, within five minuts of talking, recognized the problem sent me for lab work and found that not only was my Ferritin level at 11 but my vitamin B12 level was 135.

Ah the cause to all my debilitating symptoms and finally some reassurance that I was not going crazy as suggested by my former Dr.

I only wish that I found your site sooner the information found here is very helpful.

It is gratifying to receive stories like this, since it reinforces what we set out to do when we publish this website.

Your story does illustrate one point which is important to be stated: Doctors are only human. In spite of all their training and the medical science at their disposal, they cannot know how we feel better than we do. If one doctor cannot provide a solution to our problems, we still have to live with it so, if you're not satisfied with the solution, keep looking until you find someone who can help.

Sometimes help will come from people who are not doctors, but don't make the mistake of concluding that no doctors have any value just because your problem wasn't solved by a doctor. The next problem might need a doctor, or it might need someone else ... it all depends on the problem and the circumstances.

Follow the old philosopher's advice to know yourself. Keep tuned in to your own body and mind. They are your best indicators of what is wrong. Then choose your solutions after checking all the alternatives you can find, mix in some common sense and you'll likely do just fine.
