Quizno's is a sub-shop chain that also serves bread bowls, soups, and salads. Quizno's is a sub-shop chain that also serves bread bowls, soups,
and salads. What do we know about Quizno's nutritional information?
It's a good idea to know about it, as this is probably Subway's closest
competitor in the sub-as-fast-food market niche, and the chain has made
a lot of commercial inroads through some often wacky advertising, such
as a little baby with the voice of a 40-year-old man who sounds like he
smokes two packs a day extolling the manliness of eating at Quizno's.
Well, almost everyone's heard about Subway and the (true) story of Jared by now. Jared was an accidental discovery for them, but it turns out that that guy really did shed 100+ pounds by making a dietary change and starting to go to the sub shop for his fast food fix as opposed to the burgers-and-fries restaurants. How does Quizno's nutritional information compare? Could you lose weight like Jared by switching instead to Quizno's?
One thing we know is that Quizno's tastes very good. But once again, we want to match this against Quizno's nutritional information. Let's look at their top calorie-stuffers.
Now as I've written elsewhere -- I am not, and neither should you be, a calorie-counter. We need calories. Instead, what we want to gather from Quizno's nutritional information is the nature of those calories. Calories from sweet potatoes and blueberries aren't the same quality of calories as those from saturated fats.
For simplicity's sake, I am only going to examine Quizno's submarine sandwiches.
Tuna Melt Sub (large)
Prime Rib Cheesesteak Sub (large)
Prime Rib & Peppercorn Sub (large)
Chicken Carbonara Sub (large)
Classic Club with Bacon Sub (large)
Honey Mustard Chicken with Bacon Sub (large)
Now, when I considered these six mega sandwiches, what did I find? (Well, besides the fact that they're all delicious.) Well, let's consider that the tuna melt is the biggest belly buster they have, in terms of total calories. Fish is healthy for you, isn't it? It sure is. But watch this one:
| Total calories | 2090 |
| Calories from fat | 1570 |
| Grams of fat | 175 |
| Grams saturated fat | 31 |
| Trans fats | 2.5 grams |
| Cholesterol | 215 mg |
| Sodium | 2190 mg |
| Carbs | 86 grams |
| Grams Fiber | 10 |
| Grams Sugar | 10 |
| Grams Protein | 44 |
Now ... what does this all come down to for many people? It says that if they buy just one Quizno's Large Tuna Melt Sub per day, and cut it up into four pieces, and eat one piece at four different times throughout the day and evening, they are getting all of the protein, fat (of every kind), cholesterol, and sodium (in fact, more than enough of that) than they need for the entire day!
If they are on a weight loss program, those 86 carbs, 10 grams of refined sugar, and all that sodium aren't doing them a bit of good. But the fact that all the protein is coming from tuna fish and cheese is a good thing. They will just need some more dietary fiber and water and they are all set.
Moral of the story when considering Quizno's nutrition information: their products are good and tasty, and you can enjoy them from time to time -- er, especially if you're a serious ice hockey or football player. But you need a more balanced diet, and part of getting that means getting high quality supplements -- like, one that provides potassium to help you with all that cooked table salt, and a good choice might be Xtend Life's Total Balance.
