Male Menopause Symptoms

Male menopause symptoms?  Are you kidding?  The article below may shed some new light on the topic ...

Women may be surprised to find out that men also go through menopause. A Man's menopause occurs when testosterone levels drop below normal. Testosterone is responsible for sexual desire, sexual ability and male characteristics. A drop in testosterone levels is common as male’s age, but when levels drop earlier than expected, the mind may not be ready for what the body is saying.

Male menopause symptoms may begin in men around the same time as female symptoms. The peak age for testosterone production is 18. After that, there is a drop in testosterone levels. Many men think of the change in mood as growing up and accept the new feelings as being normal. By the time the body reaches the late 40s and early 50s, the next significant drop occurs and the effects can be too much for many men to accept.

The Most Common Male Menopause Symptoms

Men who are approaching 50 may want to take note of these common menopause symptoms. It is important to note that a man's menopause may occur earlier or later in life, depending on the individual.

  • Decrease in Sex Drive
    – Testosterone levels drop and with them the sex drive also tends to wane.

  • Fatigue – Lower testosterone levels can significantly reduce energy levels.

  • Loss of Memory – One of the scariest symptoms, male hormones are responsible, in part, for maintaining concentration. With lower concentration, memory loss or forgetfulness may occur.

  • Increased Irritability – Most likely associated with the effect of the other symptoms, men who have passed through menopause may have a shorter anger fuse.

  • Increase in Weight – Without the higher levels of male hormones, the metabolism slows and weight gain may occur.

  • Difficulty Sleeping – Both males and females who have gone through menopause have trouble sleeping. Sleep patterns are associated with reproductive hormones. The difficulty sleeping can also attribute to the fatigue and irritability.

  • Loss of Bone Density – Bone density levels decline after menopause, though not at the rate of women. Decreased bone density can lead to osteoporosis if left untreated.

  • Lower Self Esteem – With the long list of potential symptoms, there is little surprise that self esteem and self worth may also be affected. Men often feel less “manly” after going through male menopause.

Natural Treatment for Male Menopause Symptoms

The decrease in testosterone levels does not mean the male has to accept his new feelings in life. There are plenty of natural methods for boosting male hormone levels to the point where most, or all, symptoms completely disappear. The first line of defense against male menopause symptoms is a change in daily diet and activity levels. Daily exercise with weight training added three days a week is important for boosting testosterone levels and increasing bone density.  Foods rich in Omega 3s and B vitamins are also a fantastic addition.

Herbs can also be used to naturally boost male hormones and reduce the effect of male menopause symptoms. The list includes:

  • Passionflower

  • saw palmetto

  • avena sativa

  • eurycoma longifolia

  • tribulus terrestris.
Each of these supplements can be found in health food stores or online.

Vitamin and mineral supplements created just for men may include some or all of these herbs, so check the daily vitamin label before adding any herbs to your daily routine.  One very complete supplement made expressly for men is Xtend-Life's Total Balance for Men
