You've heard about fish oil vitamins and want to know what they're all about. This article will help you understand them...

Let's start by setting the record straight: Fish oil vitamins are not vitamins. Fish-oil is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids--eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These acids have been proven to reduce inflammation in the body.
Probably what most people are thinking when they use the term "fish oil vitamins" is fish oil supplements. It's simply a matter of semantics, but in the end fish oil is a valuable addition to your diet.
To understand this you need to know that the fish from which the omega 3 fatty acids are extracted do not actually produce these acids. They acquire and accumulate the omega 3 fatty acids in their body by consuming microalgae that contain these acids.
Herrings and sardines are predatory fish that are also a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids because they eat other fish which have accumulated omega 3 fatty acids by eating microalgae.
The FDA advises that mackerel, lake trout, albacore tuna and salmon which are predatory fishes at the top of the food chain are not recommended for consumption in large quantities because, in addition to the omega 3, they also accumulate undesirable toxins from their food.
To deal with the toxic issue, producers of fish oil supplements may use a patented in a process called stripping technology. This means the omega 3 acid extracted from predatory fish is purified and the toxins removed before the product is packaged for human use.
In processing, fish oil is extracted from the body of the fish, not the liver -- which is not used. This is because the liver is rich in Vitamin A which can be dangerous for human consumption in large quantities.
Fish oil is a tremendous health
supplement, but if you are planning on adding any supplement to your
diet and you are under treatment for any illness you would be wise to
consult with your physician before making the change.
