We often hear of brain vitamins and minerals beings offered in the form of nutritional supplements. As the name implies, these micronutrients boost the healthy functioning of the brain such that it is better able to resist the signs of aging like lower memory abilities, lesser cognitive functions and higher risks for neurological chronic degenerative diseases. Many nutritional supplements information will even ascribe significantly lowering the risk for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
Well, of course, your primary sources of these micronutrients should be a healthy diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and cereals, and lean meats and fishes, among others. But there will be instances that nutritional supplementation is necessary if the following brain nutrients can be feed to the body.

If you can connect the dots, antioxidants fight off the free radicals. Thus, when you increase your consumption of antioxidants from food and supplement sources, you are lowering your risks for Alzheimer's disease and the like.
At present, researchers generally agree that, for these antioxidant nutrients to be effective, certain doses must be followed. Vitamin E dosage is 400-500 IU; Vitamin C dose is 500-1,000 mg; lipoic acid at 10-50 mg; and CoQ10 is at 100-200 mg. If you want these brain vitamins straight from their food sources, you can include more prunes, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, strawberries, raisins, garlic, cooked kale, raw spinach, and raspberries into your diet.
The modern-day diet is more filled with omega-6 than the healthy omega-3 essential oil, which should not be. Studies have shown that people with sufficient levels of omega-3 in their bodies have higher IQs than those who are malnourished in this essential oil. We recommend eating more fatty fishes like tuna, salmon, mackerel and herring as well as flax seed oil to get your share of omega-3.
Ultimately, these brain vitamins and minerals are just that - nutrients to feed the body and mind. You must still exert the effort to actually exercise your brain just as you exercise your body. Go out and socialize, read books and just generally hone your brain's capacities regardless of your age.
